I really regret the time spent reading this book and cannot believe I actually got to the end. It was supposed to be like a Kate Daniels/Mercy Thompson kind of book, but it is not like them at all - a huge disappointment! It was incredibly derivative of the Kate Daniels plot. It actually seemed like the author took the Kate Daniels series as a template and followed every thing exactly - as though it were a set of rules. She doesn't know her father - check, she has mysterious powers that she must hide - check, she has to remain anonymous so that people won't find her - check, an orphan - check, best fighter around - check... etc. But, there are some big differences. Born in Fire is not well-written, the main character uses the same angry tone of voice for EVERY single conversation she has - no nuance, no differences for different people. In fact, you don't actually care what happens to her, or to anyone else in the book. It's not two-dimensional, it's actually one-dimensional. The only character who is remotely interesting is the vampire, and he tries to remain remote.I was so shocked at how bad it was, and how good the reviews were, that I tried the second book to see if she got better. Well, it was about 5% better, but that still leaves it pretty bad. I did not read the third and would like to scour it off my Kindle. The only bright spot is that at least it was a cheap book, but I really regret the wasted time.Looking for strong female characters, interesting magic and a complex storyline? Try S. A. Chakraborty's new book "City of Brass". Wow! that's a book to read! Meet Reagan, supernatural bounty hunter extraordinaire with a super rare blend of magic. Who also reaaaaalllly needs to bring her mark in so she can get paid and get some decent ac going in her rented house. All of which was going according to plan... until an elder vampire (and a seriously hot one too) just came up and took her mark and as such, her pay check. Yeah, that's not going over well. Now Darius has the balls to request her aid? Sure he will pay her an insane amount of money and give her a house... but he's still a vampire. He took one mark away from her, who says he wont screw her over again? And then there is the teensy weensy secret of her magic that if word got out, would spell a whole new level of trouble for our kick ass bounty hunter. My take on the book:The snark is strong in this one... I enjoyed it!Weirdly enough, its only when writing this review that I noticed things were lacking in the book.Character development was decent. We met the players, we got a some info about Reagan and that's pretty much it. Her mother died, but I don't think we found out how, she works in the bounty hunting business but we don't know how she got there, she has no papers but is able to rent a house (while I guess that should be possible in some case when paying cash or so... but still!). We got next to no info about Darius, other that he's an elder vampire with good taste in his home decoration. Yeah, so that was lacking.Reagan is also certifiably crazy, rushing off without thinking things through. Her thoughts and ramblings befit a teenager rather than an adult woman. The plot and the world building were great, enough descriptions (but none too boring) to keep me immersed in the created world.Pacing was good, we had a lot of action going on and it didn't feel rushed at all. There were (as far as I can tell) no errors and there is no sex in this book (though we have a scene with a naked Darius) if that is important to you.All in all, I really enjoyed reading the book, but once it was finished I kept thinking back to the things it lacked. So while not wholly convinced, book 2 is in my TBR pile... lets hope it brings me around! :) Read Online Born in Fire (Demon Days, Vampire Nights World Book 1) Download Born in Fire (Demon Days, Vampire Nights World Book 1) Born in Fire (Demon Days, Vampire Nights World Book 1) PDF Born in Fire (Demon Days, Vampire Nights World Book 1) Mobi Free Reading Born in Fire (Demon Days, Vampire Nights World Book 1) Download Free Pdf Born in Fire (Demon Days, Vampire Nights World Book 1) PDF Online Born in Fire (Demon Days, Vampire Nights World Book 1) Mobi Online Born in Fire (Demon Days, Vampire Nights World Book 1) Reading Online Born in Fire (Demon Days, Vampire Nights World Book 1) Read Online K.F.
